About: With about half a million followers across social media platforms and millions of streams and views on all streaming platforms, Haitian-American singer-songwriter and producer Miu Haiti is a massive force to reckon with influences reaching from pop and R&B with a hip-hop edge.

  • Born and raised in Haiti, music has always been important to her as being the daughter of a saxophonist.

  • Her versatile artistic expression is influenced by her love of fashion, makeup artistry, performance arts, and interior design.

  • She can also connect with a global audience by speaking and singing in various languages, including English, Creole, French, and Spanish.

Newest Release: Her follow-up album to her successful debut, Unphased, was released on December 15th, 2023.

  • Unphased is an eight-tracked album chock full of sounds that exchanges influences from Hip-Hop/rap, pop, R&B/soul, and everything in between.

  • The album has something for everybody, ranging from heartfelt, soulful ballads to thought-provoking and fun Pop anthems.

Feedback: I always find a lot of Hip-Hop songs to have a dark sound to them, and Miu's music is that and then some more. I love the bilingual lyrics; that's a unique factor in her music.

  • I would love to hear more from her, especially songs similar to Chocolate Candy, Is This Love, and Filon.

  • I would love to get to know Miu on a deeper level, such as what living in Haiti was like or why she wanted to learn all these languages.

  • If you want to learn more about this part of Miu Haiti, please let me know in the comments.

SKRAM | Indie Features
SKRAM | Indie Features

About: We only get a few New Zealand musicians, much less bands, on the blog. However, when we do, they are no different than SKRAM.

  • SKRAM is a vibrant and energetic band that explores the journey of life and its many intricacies.

  • The band comprises Henry Ashby, Felix Nesbitt, Ruby Fraser, Dylan Jennings, and many more.

    • Together, they connect with your inner child, weaving in their music's vulnerable, honest, and passionate themes.

Newest release: Their latest chaotic and fun experience, Serendripity, is oozing confidently, reminding their listeners of the importance of self-image and self-worth.

  • The single highlights the idea of wearing whatever you want and feeling safe and confident when venturing into the world.

  • This fun but meaningful anthem celebrates the freedom to choose based on your tastes instead of conforming to societal expectations.

What Henry Ashby says: “The first time I put bright sparkly blue eyeliner on I had a war with myself, loving the way I looked but also being terrified of how others would judge me as a man wearing makeup. As I started to put myself out there more and explore my feminine side, I found I became more confident with my chaotic style, and I began to feel more comfortable actually expressing myself. Serendripity is a call out to people to help others feel like they can be whoever they want to be and wear anything they think is cool, even if it’s insane”

Feedback: I love this fun and unique single, like what Queen would sound like today.

  • This single has a little funky blues, and take notice of Henry's dripping rap.

  • This is an excellent queer anthem, and I think it will be a hit with fans of Bruno Mars and musicians of the like.

  • I have nothing negative about this single; it is a great production.

About: The dynamic London-born singer-songwriter Sofia Gillani has inspired audiences with her music and strikingly visual videos since 2020.

  • Her impressive music collection has been featured on BBC Introducing and performed at Westfield London, Haslemere Fringe, and Luton Pride.

  • As a person who has interviewed her before, Sofia is a person who will put a smile on your face, and the same to her music.

On January 26th, 2024, Sofia will release her first single of the year, Levels.

  • This single is much more fun in its messages than other songs.

  • The playful and carefree pop song encourages listeners to enjoy life without worries or overthinking.

  • An upbeat rhythm, rap verses, and messages of living in the moment make it a refreshing and captivating tune, and she can't wait to play it live for her audience.

Feedback: This feature for the beginning of the year is chock full of unbelievable talent, but Sofia raises the bar with her next single.

  • This bound for the lounge single is unreleased, and i promise i won't reveal too much about it.

  • I love how it sounds like Sofia had so much fun making this track, and I think you will when it comes out later this month!

Walker by Sky_A Unreleased | Indie Features

Sky_A | Indie Features (Unreleased)
Sky_A | Indie Features (Unreleased)

About: Synesthete is a neurological condition that causes people to perceive things through multiple other unrelated senses. For example, Sky_A is a musician who sees music as a series of shapes, colors, and textures.

  • Based in London, Sky_A is the project name for writer and producer Sky Ainsbury, who expands on his electronic, acoustic, and progressive rock music palette.

  • The result is a darker edge to his intimate yet cinematic sound.

New Release: Sky_A will be releasing his newest release, Walker, on January 26th.

  • Lyrically, the song is about having been lied to, along with other plot lines to go with it.

  • Sonically, the release is like a war march, built around the sound of handpicked guitar with a feeling of molten rock.

  • The song features virtuoso drums by Adam Betts and additional production and mixing by Aneek Thapar.

What Sky_A says: “It’s an angry piece of music. Like, anti-imperial levels of anger. It’s about having been lied to, having participated in awful things on a huge scale, and becoming aware, resolving to undo the damage that has been done. It’s a bit like a war march, sonically. Built around the sound of my thumb on an unearthed guitar lead - a sound most musicians will recognise, barely musical - it has this feeling for me of molten rock, this tectonic movement, as this person is accepting their pain as a gift, of purposeful anger. I like it being called Walker, I hear the rhythm as a kind of limping gait, wounded but resolute. There’s a lot more to it than that - every song on the album is a scene, and the sounds are characters - which won’t make much sense out of context, but it comes at a decisive point, it’s the squaring up to the challenge ahead, it’s about seeing the horror and brutality in the world and not looking away.”

Feedback: I'm genuinely very interested and intrigued by Sky_A; he seems like a really cool person. On top of that, his music pulls you in like Keefer (don't know him? What a shame...)

  • I would also add an experimental element to his sound and a progressive grunge (prog-grunge, in short.) You will love Walker.

  • It's an excellent track, and I would love to hear more like it.
